Handicap Accessible Bathroom
This project involved a bathroom addition for a couple that had to be fully wheelchair accessible for the wife but also comfortable for the non-disabled husband. Additionally, the bathroom had to integrate with the existing house. From the driveway to the living room, through all doorways, and right into the shower, there's not a sill to be found. A wainscoted design reveals what is actually a continuous handrail. Moveable shelf systems slot into the handrail, giving total flexibility for toiletries, organization, and comfort. All fixtures - the handheld shower, the pivoting vanity mirror, a pedestal toilet paper holder - are designed for ease of use whether standing or seated in a wheelchair. Features include under-floor radiant heat for comfort, on-demand hot water for whole-house efficiency, and a tile border that echoes a Greek motif symbolizing eternal life.
