Sustainability Statement

Our world is a closed system and our actions within this system have significant consequences, for better or worse. We intend to ensure that our contribution to our world system is helpful, not harmful.

Towards that end, we have made the following commitments:

We have chosen to specialize in retrofits, renovations, remodels, and additions because renovating in place preserves existing resources in place. Highly efficient new construction practices are very important, but the vast and overwhelming majority of our building stock consists of existing structures. These structures, through the intelligent application of building science and innovative design, can be made more efficient and sustainable. In our opinion, this represents the greatest possible net impact on our region's, and nation's, sustainability.

We maintain membership in, and strive to embody the principles of, the Western North Carolina Green Building Council.

We maintain expertise in energy efficiency to help our customers reduce energy use.

We salvage for re-use all structural materials possible.

We salvage for re-use or donation all finish materials possible.

We recycle, wherever possible, raw materials from the job site such as metals, paper, and cardboard.

For caulks and adhesives, we utilize Bostik low- to zero-VOC products.

Where possible, for paints we utilize zero VOC products by Earthpaint or the Harmony® line from Sherwin-Williams.

For termite and powder post beetle treatment, we utilize BoraCare borate-based treatment - a benign-to-humans "green" product.

We offer a full range of insulation products and applications.

We offer a full range of products for efficient and effective heating of water and for heating and cooling your living space.

We offer a full range of products for efficiently lighting your space, including cutting-edge applications with LED retrofits and/or new fixtures.

We can strategize with you to develop realistic and cost-effective applications to reduce your energy usage, make your space healthier, and keep you comfortable all the while.
